Humans: Dynamic Beings
Share
Over the last 50 years. We’ve seen a move to HYPER specialization within job field.
In contrast we’re seeing the opposite in Martial arts thanks to MMA. Boxers training wrestling to help with their dirty boxing. Juju-Jitsu and Muay Thai are the equivalents to PB & J- a dynamic duo.
now back onto society and employment. With the rise of universities and colleges and technological advancement. The needs for these skills were at an all time high. Which forced us as a society to specialize in a given field. But that’s not human nature, we’re a dynamic species. It’s the whole reason we have emotions and free will (that’s another discussion- stay tuned for ;).
your professional self is different than your personal self. How you show up for your family may be different than how you show up to a night out with friends. We have many interests / hobbies / curiosities. Even the greatest renaissance men were multi-dimensional. They were artists, engineers, architects and so on. They were not limited to a box or a singular field.
We’re seeing this mass awaking- if you will- with people realizing this. Especially in the fitness space with “Hybrid Athletes” (which it’s really just fitness fam but I digress). You will have your strong areas, but you’ll round out your weaknesses. Gary Vee is a big proponent of work on your strength, go all in on them and fuck your weaknesses.
Martial Artists know this cannot be the case when going into battle. Now of course you have your fighting style, which work off of. But you round out your skillset to avoid your opponent exposing weaknesses.
So lean into your curiosities, learn new skills, try new things, experience life, explore, adventure.
